In June 2024 a family in Ogden, Utah was cleaning out their garage when they found a spilled vile of elemental mercury. The mercury came from the father of the family who was a chemist and has since passed away. The spilled mercury container was among 30-40 other containers of various chemicals and several still in tact jars of mercury. The family called the National Response Center and the EPA Region 8 Removal Team initiated an emergency response.

Response efforts to remove the mercury and mitigate any chemical exposures will begin on Thursday, June 6.
