On September 4, 2020, The Texas Commission on Environmental
Quality (TCEQ) conducted a site assessment at some residential properties located within the block bordered by South Pine Street, Wyoming Street, South Olive Street, and Dakota Street in San Antonio, TX. The investigation was initiated after a complaint was filed by a resident alleging lead contamination on their property. TCEQ
assessed residential properties and collected several soil samples for
laboratory analysis from various locations on the properties. Some laboratory
results showed lead concentrations above the Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP) Tier 1 Residential Total Soil Combine Concentration Limits of 500 parts per million (ppm).
In August 2023, TCEQ requested EPA's assistance with
conducting a Removal Site Evaluation.
EPA began assessment work in early 2024; EPA is requesting access to the nearby properties to collect samples and determine the extent of the contamination. The results of the
samples will be used to determine which properties exceed the lead residential soil removal management levels (RML) and can be included in an EPA Removal Action, which will consist
of excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated soils.
